Junior Systems Engineer
This position is responsible for developing innovative web based applications that will integrate flawlessly with our existing systems. Our systems engineers work closely with our network and voice engineers to develop specifications and make recommendations on the use of new and emerging technologies and optimization of current technology.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Work in conjunction with a development team to produce and maintain high quality web-based applications using PHP
- Continue ongoing development of existing functionality of internal web-based applications
- Day to day management tasks of Windows 2008R2 and Red Hat Linux servers
- Perform and evaluate cost analyses and vendor comparisons of software/hardware systems to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations and make purchase recommendations
- Analyze potential systems investments, determine appropriate architecture, and prepare supporting documentation for recommendation(s) to management and customers based on results of independent assessment of current and future performance, stability, and systems management/life cycle issues
- Provide escalated technical support to customers by handling systems-related issues via phone or email
- Provide technical consultation on current and proposed systems to other organizations and clients
REQUIREMENTS
- MUST LIVE IN MADISON OR ADJOINING COUNTY. NO OUT OF STATE APPLICANTS.
- Experience in systems engineering, software engineering, operating systems and programming
- Associate's Degree, Bachelor's preferred
- CCENT or Network+ certification
- LAN / WAN management
- MySQL, MSSQL, C++, and Perl
- At least 2 years of experience using LAMP, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS
- Experience managing Linux servers (in a production environment)
- Analytical and creative problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of systems
- Strong communication skills
- Organization skills to balance and prioritize work to meet set deadlines
- Leadership skills to assist less experienced personnel
- Ability to integrate moderately complex hardware and software systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
PREFERRED
- Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, management information systems, or related field
- VoIP Deployment Experience
- CCNA
